This is really quite simple. I paint the things I like to study. I stand in front of them and paint them. I am usually drawn to a scene by aspects of light, texture, color, form or the juxtaposition of opposites. Sometimes I will paint a subject as a sort of challenge to myself. I try to understand what is really going on or to try to capture an elusive visual effect. When I am painting, I am not operating in a wholly conscious way, but in a sort of autonomous manner that is an escape from the left brain world of my professional life. I get a lot of paint on myself. It's fun.
